How To Know If The Traveling Pastor Got An Attitude Problem

By Judy Sullivan

There are times when people are required to work together with a traveling pastor. If this is the case, it is only normal to know if the superior is someone who got an attitude problem. If the person can determine who is good-natured and who has a foul nature, then one can easily adapt to the situation. Here are some tips to know who has an attitude problem at the church.

First of all, one should be aware of whether this professional is self-centered or not. It should be easy to see if this is the case if the said professional always have needs that he or she wants to get attended to. Most of the times, they imply importance to their needs to the point that it takes precedence over the church.

No one is perfect. People make mistakes and that is how they learn. If the priest cannot accept their own mistakes, then they surely need to go to counseling and get their attitude problem cured. They should learn how to accept their own mistakes or misdeeds and ask for forgiveness the right way.

Being unable offer a heartfelt apology or ask for forgiveness might also be due to the fact that the said professional has a high blaming behavior. This is the kind of behavior that will just project all of a person's faults on to other people. This means that whatever happens, any mistake is never his or her fault.

If they are unreliable, then they are surely someone with an attitude problem. As a professional who is working in a church, there are times when the less unfortunate people will rely on them for a few necessities. Being an unreliable person means that he or she can change mind and even reverse his or her decisions any time.

A priest can make his or her own decision, being a grown up and all. However, those with an attitude problem usually cannot make a decision that does not have any bad consequence to other people. Even if they know of this, they do not care whatever happens to other people. They just pick the choice that is beneficial to them alone.

Pathological lying is also a trait of such professionals who have attitude problems. This means that they can lie if they consider this to be helpful to their image and if the lie will not be discovered. If the lie is discovered or followed up on, they will simply imply that the other person is wrong and that the lie was never said in the first place.

Those who rationalizes easily should be classified as someone with attitude problems. While there are good things about rationalizing, someone who twist conversations just to gain something at another person's expense is not normal. When they get trapped, they just continue talking or they change the subject. At times, they might get extremely mad.

There are numerous signs that a person can still check up on. Be sure to know and identify these signs early on so that one does not have to be positioned near a traveling pastor who has a severe attitude problem. Being aware of who is good-natured in the church will also benefit the person a lot.

Tips On How To Find The Best Deals On Flights

By Judy Sullivan

These days, airfares change often and it is therefore challenging for travelers to find the best deal. Most travelers wish to get cheap air tickets and the common question they have in their minds is how to save money on airfare. This is particularly the case from frequent travelers because they may end up spending too much money on airplane travel. The following are tips on how to find the best deals on flights.

The first thing that a traveler should do is to sign up for airfare alerts. They are offered free by air travel search and listing websites. They will send emails to inform you when airfares have reduced. Some websites will let you know when airfares on a route you have selected go down in price, regardless of the flight time or airline.

Signing up for flier programs offered by various airlines is another step you should take if you want to find good deals. Airlines tend to offer special deals to customers after signing up for their newsletters and email lists. They may offer you a promotional code deal that is redeemable on their sites only. An airline can also inform you about special deals that it is offering to people who have signed up for its loyalty programs.

If you are a flexible flyer, you can also pay low airfares. Be flexible on arrival and departure times, travel dates and destinations if possible. Different price levels exist for every flight. The factors that affect the prices of flights include the date when a ticket is bought, the popularity of the destination, the travel season and how full a flight gets.

People can also pay less on air travel if they book travel tickets early. Domestic airlines usually provide travelers with the best fares if they purchase tickets twenty four, fourteen or seven days before the date of a flight. Travelers who use their creativity to search for flights can also get better deals. This includes checking the prices of air tickets based on schedule and connections.

If you are traveling for a vacation, you can opt for travel packages, which usually include car rentals, hotel and air travel. The total package rate is often lower than the cost of paying for all these services separately. You can also save on airfare if you use your frequent flyer miles or points. The smart way to spend these miles or points is to pay for long distance trips.

Another way to pay less on a flight is to call a travel agent and ask him or her to help you find a package deal. Travel agents always know about the airlines that are offering the cheapest tickets to various destinations. Even though they will charge you for their services, the savings you can achieve can be tremendous.

After they find a cheap ticket, travelers should obtain information about the extra fees that they may be required to pay for premium seats and luggage among other things. This will let them know the entire amount they will pay before decide to buy a ticket. If they heed these guidelines on how to find the best deals on flights, travelers can save money each time they fly.

Inspire A Congregation With The Speaking Skills Of A Guest Preacher

By Judy Sullivan

Many church congregations will be presented with a guest preacher at certain times throughout the year to speak about certain topics. Any visit by an outsider will require certain steps to be taken in order for the minister or speaker to be fully versed on why a request is being made. The process is a formality for most congregations because the individual is usually known throughout the community as a well rounded speaker.

The invitation to speak is often accomplished by the current pastor, and the first contact that the two individuals will have will be done through a conversation over the telephone. Certain forms may be used to make a more formal request, which would be required to meet Church standards of conduct. Certain facts must be compiled before the visit is placed before the Church board for approval.

The speaker will need to provide information on a form that will solidify details for each event. The form will convey the reasons that the visit is necessary. People are often asked to speak during events that celebrate life, and death. Baptisms, revivals, and seasonal holidays are notable events that need to be formally recognized by persons of faith.

An announcement is created for each speaking event and is usually mailed to all members of the congregation. Some churches will have a fellowship after the speaking engagement, and that information will be included in the announcement. Some people that agree to speak at an event will have to come to the church from another State and arrangements for lodging will need to be made.

Certain spaces on the forms sent to the speaker will influence the scheduling of the event, and the speaker is given the opportunity to ask for certain things that are needed to make the event message clear to all visitors. The items could be a table or songs that would be sung by the church choir or the speaker might ask for a pitcher of water.

The information that is provided on the form will be used to create an introduction at the beginning of each speaking engagement. The names of the spouse and children will be needed, and the dates that the person attended seminary, and any other credentials that are pertinent. The congregation will warm to the words of a person that allows others to get close, and any information that the person cares to share will prove to be useful.

When inviting a person to speak at the church, certain costs must be discussed because church monies must be alloyed to cover those cost. Any speaking fees will be presented, and additional costs that the speaker will incur before arriving to the location, such as fuel costs. The Board will have to vote on all costs associated with the visit.

A guest preacher will convey a certain message to the congregation that is meant to inspire every individual in attendance. The speeches will be tailored to the needs of the church and will be presented in an eloquent manner. All members of the congregation will enjoy reading about the speech in the weekly newsletter.

Hemingway: Rock Star Of Famous American Authors

By Mickey Jhonny

The reader may feel a bit incredulous at suggesting an early 20th century writer be memorialized by a term which only came into common usage a number of years after his death. However, I hope to demonstrate that Hemingway was indeed the template replicated by such a large number of the rock stars who crashed and burned after meteoric ascents, in the decades just subsequent to Hemingway's death in 1961.

We've placed Hemingway high on our list of top 20 most famous American authors . He earned that rank on the strength of his contribution to English language literature. Yet, even with all that, there's no denying that his fame and its very nature superseded even that literary legacy. He made the mold for artistic celebrity that defined the 20th century.

Still in his 20s he rocketed to critical acclaim with his anguished and restless novella The Sun Also Rises. Just a couple years later, still basking in his critical cache, he also became a bestselling author, with the publication of A Farewell to Arms. The latter was sandwiched between a pair of story collections that were so remarkable that it is fair to say that Hemingway singlehandedly reinvented the short story. Stories like A Day's Wait, A Clean and Well-Lighted Place and Hills Like White Elephants were heartbreaking snapshots of life's tiny emotional wounds and scars.

It is hard to think of any other artist, in any medium, who managed to combine both critical and commercial acclaim at such a young age. There were a number of factors coming together to make this remarkable success possible for the young Hemingway.

To begin with, reminiscent of many of the most successful rock artists who followed him in the later decades of the century - think of David Bowie, David Byrne and Madonna - Hemingway exhibited a remarkable capacity to draw valuable lessons from avant garde and experimental artists, while having a deep intuition about how to apply these lessons in ways that remained accessible to mainstream literary society. For Hemingway the important influences included Ezra Pound, James Joyce and Gertrude Stein. He knew how to capture a lesson in narrative or language from the avant garde in a way that domesticated it for the mainstream.

And capture it, he did. In a manner strikingly resembling the way that rock and roll captured the rebellion and idealism of the educated and materially privileged baby boomers, Hemingway's fiction captured the existential disquiet of the post-WWI lost generation.

Meteoric success at a young age, though, poses its challenges: how does one repeat the feat? What do you do for an encore? He did have some modest "hits" in the 30s, capped off with the success of For Whom the Bell Tolls in 1940. Perhaps not a work equal to what he'd accomplished previously, but it sold. The 40s dragged out though as long a decade in which Hemingway's publications became less and less impressive and relevant.

Nonetheless, his name never ceased being on the tips of people's tongues and his private life was a source of seemingly endless fascination in the popular press. And Hemingway clearly was aware of this fascination and took no small effort in nurturing it along. He sought out and maintained cordial associations with influential gossip columnists of the time. And his much celebrated exploits in the hunting or fishing of big game never failed to produce photographic fodder for the pages of the era's glossy magazines.

He appeared in commercial advertisements endorsing a number of consumer products. And he regularly submitted letters to literary and other publications in which he primped and primed the well sculpted image of the man's man and the anti-intellectual intellectual.

By this time, at least in literary circles, Hemingway had plenty of detractors - those who depicted him as being reduced to a kind of self parody. To get a sense of how some were now regarding Hemingway, we might consider the 60s and 70s rock and pop bands, grey and flabby, that today cash in on their former glory on the casinos and community hall circuit.

If Hemingway's story had ended there, it would still have been the template for the future rock star, but it turned out he had one more moment of greatness in him - and thereby raised the bar to a mythical height for those who would follow him. It was almost as if one of those geriatric rock bands had the audacity to insist on doing original material though they were being booed off every stage when refusing to just play oldies and goldies. Then, remarkably, they had a new platinum record.

When it appeared to all-the-world that Hemingway had nothing original or important left to say, the literary world was swept away with the 1952 publication of his heartbreaking novella, The Old Man and the Sea. Amazingly, he had done it again; once more Hemingway had become artistically relevant. No doubt largely a function of this last great hurrah, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature, perhaps adding the final piece to the Hemingway legend.

Yet, in that tragic way in which Hemingway's work always told more about him than perhaps he realized, one can't help noting the theme of this last great novella. It tells the story of an elderly man who sees his last hope for greatness slip away out of his grasp. The moment of its apparent possession revealed as but a mirage. By the 50s, there was something tragically broken in the heart of Hemingway.

And of course he molded that template for 20th century artistic celebrity right to the end. Anticipating all the tragic rock star youths which would follow the path he'd beaten, in 1961, in an isolated home, Hemingway succumbed to his own misdoing, in a suicidal fog of depression and substance abuse. The world lost one of the most important artists of the 20th century. In the process, the template of artistic celebrity which Hemingway made, received its finishing touch. And it would be a mold, simultaneously triumphant and tragic that informed the aspirations of dreamy youth throughout the rest of the century.

And indeed still does.

Tips To Using Enthusiasm And Play Mindset To Build Motivation For Writing

By Buffy Greentree

"If we can create the right emotion inside of us, we can get ourselves to do anything." Anthony Robbins

All activities that have not become habits are a result of one of two things; enthusiasm giving you motivation or plain hard willpower. However, for the majority of people, enthusiasm does not last, and motivation is difficult to maintain. We suddenly realise what we're working on means hard work and will take months and years to get the results we secretly hoped would come overnight. Many people hit this in their writing early on. Pure inspiration will rarely carry the writer all the way through the first draft, let alone the second, third, fifth or tenth. And that is long before the ordeal of trying to find a publisher, if we go the traditional route, or the promotion and marketing necessary for self-publishing.

How to maintain that motivation? Generating ongoing enthusiasm and a constant feeling of play and fun in your work are great methods. We know that our mood and thoughts are easily affected by our environment and experiences, and this knowledge means we can set up systems to reinforce your desire for your task and rebuild your motivation.

Enthusiasm

1. The most effective tool for becoming a prolific writer is to be able to build motivation and enthusiasm for anything, particularly when it's something you're writing for as work. Want me to write about the new changes to income tax law? Bring it on! The difference between camel and horse dung? I'll think like a five year old and find it cool. If you can train yourself to excitement, you'll find your career flourishes (even if it's just because people want to see what you can make sound exciting next). You will also turn out more content because you will not constantly fight the urge to get up and do absolutely anything else. The difference between begrudgingly writing for an hour turning out 250 words, and letting your fingers tap-dance across the keys for an hour producing 2,500 words, is not just a measure of productivity levels, but something that can affect your health and the longevity of your career.

2. A very simple but often overlooked method is to find someone else who is interested in the same thing you should be. Other people's enthusiasm can be catching, so use it! If you have lost your spark for a topic or a task, it is always useful to find someone who is burning with desire, and warm yourself at their fire. Now, that person could be anywhere in the world, yet only a blog post, book chapter or podcast away.

3. There are many great books on writing. Sometimes, just reading about someone who loves writing is enough to remind me that I love it too. So, beg, borrow or steal some books on writing. Ask for them for Christmas presents, borrow them from the library, or obtain them any other way you can. But don't read them all at once, in one sitting. Try to read a little bit each day, a sweet mouthful that tickles your taste buds and continues to feed your enthusiasm. I find this is the best way to use these books. Always have one on the go, and turn to it when you are struggling to sit down and write. You may find yourself getting into the mindset.

Playtime

Critically for your creativity, you need to think of your writing as playtime. If you think about your writing as 'work', your motivation will flee from you. Have you ever tried to get a child to stop playing in order to come in and do homework? Imagine being able to harness the untapped power of their enthusiasm for playing towards being productive.

1. Procrastination. Have you noticed how when you have something else you really should be doing, something worse than your regular chores, those regular chores suddenly become a lot more attractive? Such as cleaning up your bedroom when you should be studying? Similarly when you 'become serious' about your writing, maybe even giving up your day job to write full time, you suddenly can't find the same motivation for it. Now your writing is your 'have to' task, rather than your sneaky secret private time. It's the thing that you want to procrastinate from doing, rather than being the procrastination. How to battle this? Try to do your writing when you should be doing something else. Sounds stupid, but try it. Take on a DIY renovation or start doing your tax early. If you find these win out over sneaking off to write, then you might need to consider being a builder or an accountant.

2. Imagination. The more you involve your imagination, the more like play writing will feel. Each time you write you can witness an adventure. How do you involve your imagination more? Set yourself a challenge that will need creative thinking to fit it into your work. During one essay and exam period, a friend and I dared each other to quote certain 'sources' in our essays. My friend managed to footnote 'I am a fish' written in Ancient Greek (a wonderful tribute to the TV series Red Dwarf), and I used Terry Pratchett in an essay on Ancient Rome. The naughty secret between you and the work might only be a sentence or two, but it can turn a boring essay into a cheeky endeavour, and makes it a whole lot more fun.

3. Relaxation. I've created a ritual in which I get home from work, go straight to the gym, come back and have dinner, then get a cup of jasmine tea, and sit myself down in my writing chair with a small sigh of relief. A physical sigh, which actually helps a lot, I recommend it. As well as the cup of tea, or wine if you prefer. Make this time a relaxing experience. It's your time to be with yourself and your characters, to see what they're up to and have a chat. Create an inviting environment and include little rituals that you look forward to. Maybe talk someone into giving you a foot rub when you get started... always worth a try!

4. No routine! Sometimes setting a word limit to aim for is effective, as this uses the 'goal achievement' aspect of motivation. But for some people, that won't work. It will make them feel stressed and constantly focused on meeting the limit. Kids play because they want to play, and they stop when they want to stop (or more commonly, when they are made to stop). They can go from one piece of equipment, over to the next, and back again as much as they like. There are no rules and no routine they have to follow. You can make your writing like that. Skip around chapters, write whatever jumps into your mind. It won't work for everyone, but it may work for you.

So there you go - three hints on enthusiasm, and four for play in order to maintain your motivation for over a day.
